Diy easy sleep mask mom and daughter

How to sew a sleeping mask

This sewing project is so much fun easy and simple with few steps there you have your little creation in minutes. Great sewing ideas for those beginners or who just want to sew simple things.

It's a nice little keepsake to sew for the family or as gift for friends and daughters friends, they will surely appreciate it. My daughter loves her unicorn sleep mask, she even use it every night, and made a little version of sleeping mask for her doll too.

What's nice about this sewing project is simple and does not need a lot of other stuff you can make it simple as possible and using preferred fabrics although the best would be silk, soft velvet which I use here in my project, these fabrics are great they soft for the skin and doesn't irritate. Obviously it's fully customized sleeping mask you can make it thicker or just lighter and thinner.

So this what you need for this diy project

-elastic, here I use ribbon elastic which are super soft
-fabrics velvet, silk or cotton, and other fancy fabric for the ears and horn
-interfacing fleece

What to do:
For the Adult size

-here is to download the pdf free pattern: adult sleep mask pattern
-cut out the 2 pcs outer layer of the pattern and trace to your outer fabric layer
-then cut also the pattern of the interfacing then trace to your interfacing 1 piece only
-iron the interfacing at the back or wrong side of your fabric
-take the elastic then sew on both sides facing the right part  of the fabric, measure it to around your head to make sure it fits well not too tight not too loose
-after sewing the elastic, draw a simple sleepy eyes just below the middle of the front fabric, then I use a zigzag sewing program to do it, slowly sew slowly
-gather the elastic in the middle put the other fabric facing right each other, then pin edges sew along sides except on top leave a space to use for flipping later.
-after sewing alongsides flip give a quick iron, then sew again all over along side
-then your done!

For the unicorn kids mask:  kids unicorn sleep mask pattern

-Its almost the same just added the ears and horn on top of the first layer of the fabric
-cut 4pcs of ears and 2 pcs horn on to your preferred fabric, then iron interfacing together to make it stiff a bit
-sew all along sides ears and horn except the bottom, then flip give a quick iron
-after attaching the elastic and making the sleepy eye of the unicorn, give a fold at the middle of the ears then position on top together with the horn. please check video for more details
-gather the elastic in the middle the ears and horn put the other fabric facing right each other, then pin edges sew along sides except on top leave a space to use for flipping later.
